Gilbert is one of the fastest growing communities in the Phoenix metro area. Originally, a very small community nestled between Chandler and Mesa in the East Valley, Gilbert has experienced dramatic growth with the addition of several large shopping and entertainment centers.
Gilbert is one of those cities that is very new. In 1975 it had around 2,000 people, only had 1 high school and one elementary school. Today it has over 110,000 people and is still growing. Many people like to live in Gilbert, because of it's farming roots and it is virtually a rural suburbia. Another reason people like to live in Gilbert is because there is so much land available and so many new homes being built that the homes are relatively affordable, compared to other communities.
Many people like the community because of the fact that it is so new. There hasn't been anyone there before them to destroy the neighborhoods, and the only people who can live in that area are those who can afford a new home. They have more assurance that their neighborhood will stay in good condition for a longer time.
